Standalone Status Effects by alayton at Dec 27, 2013 9:37pm

The Hunger and Thirst guide detailed just three of the possible statuses that can affect your character in DayZ standalone. They're just the beginning though - there are many more afflictions you might encounter. In fact, this guide only lists statuses that should currently be in the game; there's several more that are partially implemented and probably coming soon.

The Basics

Status effects, or modifiers as the scripts call them, usually have multiple stages that become increasingly more dire. An example of this is hunger, where you go from hungry to very hungry, and then to starving. You don't start losing health or blood until your starving, so the earlier stages serve as warnings.

Your character's health is described by several variables, which the status effects modify over time. When you spawn, you start with the following default values:

Health5000
Blood5000
Energy1000
Water1800
Stomach1000
Hunger0
Thirst0

So many ways to die

Click each heading to expand

Bleeding

Bleeding only has a single stage, but the amount of blood you lose is still based on how badly you're bleeding - that gets tracked separately.

The Cure

Bandaging.

Hunger

Hunger goes through three stages: hungry, very hungry, and starving.

The Cure

Eating food, or for smaller gains, drinking soda.

Hungry

CauseEnergy below 600
Symptoms "My stomach grumbles" "I'm feeling hungry" "I want to eat something" "I feel hungry"
Status texthungry

Very Hungry

CauseEnergy below 300
Symptoms "I'm extremely hungry" "My stomach grumbled violently" "I'm starving"
Status texthungry

Starving

CauseEnergy below 100
Symptoms "I'm dying of starvation"
Effects -1 Health/sec
-0.5% Blood/sec
Status textstarving

Thirst

Thirst goes through three stages of dehydration: light, medium, and heavy. It's worth noting that when you spawn, you're already in light dehydration, so one of your top priorities should be finding water. Unlike hunger, the status text in your inventory doesn't change when you reach the worst stage, so be sure to pay attention to the symptoms in your chat.

The Cure

Drinking water or soda.

Light Dehydration

CauseWater below 2000
Symptoms "I feel thirsty" "I'm thirsty" "I need a drink" "I feel like having a drink" "I want to drink something"
Status textthirsty

Medium Dehydration

CauseWater below 1000
Symptoms "I really need to drink"
Status textthirsty

Heavy Dehydration

CauseWater below 0
Symptoms "I'm dying of dehydration"
Effects -5 Health/sec
-1% Blood/sec
Status textthirsty

Healing

When you're fully fed and watered, you gain a healing status. There are three stages of healing: light regeneration, full regeneration, and healing. In the regeneration stages, you only regenerate blood, while in the healing stage, you regain health.

The Cure

Finish regenerating to full blood and health.

Light Regeneration

CauseEnergy above 3500 and Water above 3000
Effects+1 Blood/sec

Full Regeneration

CauseEnergy above 5000 and Water above 2500
Effects+3 Blood/sec

Healing

CauseEnergy above 5000, Water above 2500, and Blood at 5000
Effects+3 Health/sec
Status texthealing

Stuffed

Being stuffed is caused by eating or drinking more than your stomach can hold. There's three stages: stuffed, fully stuffed, and... vomiting.

The Cure

Wait for your stomach contents to be digested at a rate of 1 per second, or force yourself to vomit.

Stuffed

CauseStomach above 2500
Symptoms "My stomach feels stuffed" "I feel really full" "My stomach feels completely full"

Fully Stuffed

CauseStomach above 3500
Symptoms "My stomach feels absolutely stuffed" "I feel over-fed" "My stomach feels much more full then it's normal"

Vomiting

CauseStomach above 3900
Symptoms "I am close to vomiting" "I think I'm going to vomit..." "I'm going to vomit..."
Effects Vomiting:
-500 Stomach
-600 Energy (minimum of 100)
-1000 Water
Status textsick

Foot Injury

A foot injury is caused by running without shoes. While moving around, you cause damage to your feet based on the terrain you're moving on, and how fast you're moving. While wearing shoes, that damage is absorbed by lowering their condition.

The Cure

No known cure at this time, but also no known negative impact yet.

Sore

Symptoms "My feet hurt" "My feet are sore"

Injured

Symptoms "My feet are badly damaged" "My feet are bleeding" "My feet are hurting badly"

Unconscious

Unconsciousness only has one stage, which causes loss of control of your character. It can be caused either by shock, or lack of blood. Shock comes from damage to the head, and can be reduced by protective helmets. Epinephrine resets your shock level, which would revive you unless your blood is too low.

The Cure

If due to shock, epinephrine will revive you. If it's due to blood, a transfusion or saline bag. You can't easily tell if you passed out to due to shock or blood loss, but if your screen wasn't gray when you passed out, it's probably shock. If no one is around to help you, your shock level decreases at 30 per second, so it is still possible to revive on your own.

Unconscious

Cause Shock above Blood or
Blood below 500

Food Poisoning

Food poisoning has up to six stages, depending on the severity of the poisoning. The most likely source of poisoning is from eating rotten fruit, which has a 50% chance of minor poisoning, and a 5% chance of moderate poisoning. Alcohol tinctures have a 75% and 20% chance for minor and moderate food poisoning as well.

The Cure

Eating charcoal tablets will immediately remove minor or moderate food poisoning.

Stage Six

Symptoms Severe
"I feel exhausted" "I feel extremely tired"
Effects Severe: -19.5% Water/sec
Status textSevere: sick

Chemical Poisoning

Chemical poisoning is comparable to severe food poisoning. It has six stages, and is very likely to be fatal. It's normally caused by drinking disinfectant spray, which is really a bad idea.

The Cure

No known cure at this time.

Symptoms "I have a funny taste in my mouth" "My mouth tastes funny" "I notice a weird taste" "My mouth tastes weird"

Hemolytic Reaction

A hemolytic reaction is caused by receiving a blood transfusion with incompatible blood types. A blood transfusion only adds 1000 blood, while a saline IV sets you back to 5000, so a transfusion should only be used in emergencies, or after confirming compatibility - because a hemolytic reaction is going to kill you.

The Cure

No known cure at this time.

Effects -10% Blood/sec
Status textsick

Stage Two

Effects -20% Blood/sec
Status textsick

Stage Three

Effects -25% Blood/sec
Status textsick

Stage Four

Effects -5000 Blood
Status textsick

Infected Wound

Zombies have a 20% chance to give you an infected wound when they damage you. This infection is pretty dangerous, so cleaning your wounds with an alcohol tincture is important.

The Cure

Clean your wounds with an alcohol tincture, or consuming tetracycline antibiotics.

Stage One

Symptoms "My wounds are itchy" "I have itchy wounds"
Effects -13.6% Water/sec
Status textsick

Stage Two

Symptoms "My wounds are infected" "I have infected wounds"
Effects -16.9% Water/sec, -0.3% Blood/sec, -0.1% Health/sec

Status textsick

Stage Four

Symptoms "My wounds hurt less" "My wounds look cleaner"
Effects -16.9% Water/sec
Status textsick

Brain Flu

Brain flu is a most likely fatal disease that zombies have a 1% chance of infecting you with on hit. The final stage will never go away on its own until you die. One oddity is that it applies negative shock values, which seems like it would be a good thing - you go unconscious when your shock is higher than your blood.

The Cure

No known cure at this time.

Minor Sickness

Symptoms "I cough" "I sneeze"
Effects -13% Water/sec
Status textsick

Sickness

Symptoms "I cough" "I sneeze" "I feel my nose dripping" "My nose feels congested" "I have a runny nose" "My throat is sore" "I feel sore throat" "My throat hurts"

Hey anyone reading this, all of the above is all true but in place of any of the "No known cures, it literally seems real. As the unconscious one says it takes time to awaken from it so for example I was hit in the face. I waited 10 minutes and awoke, Dean just seems to be trying to be realistic. Secondly for foot injury, chemical poisoning and brain flu I think that you just need to keep healthy and wear dry clothes. Make sure you keep you hunger and thirst above yellow when they appear in your inventory screen and if you are 'sick' keep it yellow with antibiotics. I accidentally drank disinfectant spray and got chem poisoned so I regulated my thirst and hunger and kept taking antibiotics once in a while to keep it in yellow/minor stage. I hope dayz db can put this in to help :)

The chemical poisoning can be cured by antibiotics!

I haven't tried it yet but I'm really guessing that the charcoal tablets will help with chemical poisoning. I have found the tablets before but haven't tested it.

@Slippylick I got sick yesterday, could possibly have been infectious wounds but maybe chem poisoning, either way I took Charcoal Tabs and it acutally intensified my sickness so not sure there I understand what you mean though it says it does help to prevent poison.. @Millnium So it seems!! :)

BIG WARNING: If you don't actually NEED the medicine, taking it will make you sick. So make sure you know WHAT you have and then HOW to treat it.

Most sickness can be fought off by staying dry and healthy.

Cure for Brain Flu: antibiotics and/or disinfected rags.

I tabbed out in Pavlovo to check the DayZDB map and when I came back a zombie was pounding on me. I killed it then noticed I had gotten the sick icon in the inventory menu, and I was full on health hunger and thirst before. I tried taking antibiotics and painkillers but they didn't seem to do anything. When I met up with my friend in Zelenogorsk he gave me his disinfected rags because I had tried all other available alternatives. I used them and we headed south to Balota airfield. On the way down I got messages like my wounds feel cleaner every few minutes. After just getting into the military building with a jail cell on the airstrip I got a message saying you have been cured. Either the antibiotics took about 15 minutes to start working or the rags did the trick.

@Trixus . normally you can find them at the airfield building, its either in the toilet on the ground floor or the first floor corner without windows

i have successfully cured myself twice by putting alcohol tincture on your wounds, seems to cure the sick state when u are hit by a zombie,it takes about 10mins and u get msg's like my wounds feel cleaner and eventually a green msg saying u have been cured,i guess disinfected rags will help too but not sure

I was chemically poisoned by eating charcoal tablets and I cured my self by consuming an injection vile. You only have to do it once and you should see messages like "my wounds look cleaner" "my wounds hurt less" and when your cured a green one that says "My wounds have healed" So chemical poisoning is curable.

By kinkstr on 2014/01/08 at 1:50pm

I was bitten by a zombie last nigh and bled for a good while before i bandaged, since then my in game color is closer to black and white but im not getting any messages about me being sick or low on blood, ive kept myself topped up with food and water but it seems to be making no difference.

By marhanen on 2014/01/17 at 7:59am

@kinkstr

you do not get messages when you are low on blood the only way to tell is if your screen is greyscale

you need to eat alot of food like 10 cans of beans and drink abunch of water and you will slowly gain colour back on your screen you will know when you are full blood and at full food and water when you get the healing status on your inventory screen

watch this video and his others to learn all about taking care of yourself http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=SOODoxaOQ0c

@kinkstr

Dude, you just need to eat allot and in no time you've got color back. If it happens that you think it's not working (like after an hour of eating 2 cans of beans every 10minutes) then it's a simple glitch I experience allot. Just go to configuration and click on video and exit menu back to game you'll immediately notice more color or full color again.

Just a heads up about Food Poisoning (0.35.115188):

I derped hard yesterday and ended up getting food poisoning Stage4 from drinking Alcohol tincture (In my defence it was late and it looked like Guiness), however since I was energized and hydrated an hour later the sickness completely passed.
