The FN FAL is a rare battle rifle characterized by its high damage, and can only be found at helicopter crashes. It is arguably the best infantry weapon and an excellent choice for PvP engagements. As a battle rifle, rather than an assault rifle, it has a much longer effective range than many other weapons. It is entirely feasible to hit and even kill targets at 800m, but the FAL features iron sights, making this task quite daunting to novice players.
The FAL has two firing modes, semi automatic and 3-round burst. The former is by far the best for most cases, forcing ammo conservation and accurate shot placement even when a player is panicked for some reason. The 3-round burst option will just make you waste a lot of shots, because of the FAL's strong recoil in between shots. Use the burst option only when you want to suppress the enemy if you or your team are outnumbered or for cover fire if you or your team are ambushed.
The FAL uses an 20 round FN FAL Mag. loaded with 7.62x51mm NATO rounds, the same ammunition used by all military-grade western sniper rifles and light machine guns (excluding the M249 SAW). Oddly enough, as of yet, their ammo cannot be converted for use in the FAL, severely limiting availability of ammunition, as FN FAL Mag.s can only be found on helicopter crash sites (or on dead bandits).
Another major drawback of the FAL is its noise, which is high by all standards, aggroing zombies in a 180m radius. For players the radius is variable, as different players have different sound settings.
The FAL also has a variant in-game, the FN FAL AN/PVS-4 which is statistically identical to the standard FAL, the only difference being that the variant features an AN/PVS-4 night vision scope.
